Organic Sunflower Seeds
The sunflower was the symbol of the sun on the old American cultures. On north of Mexico, natives tribes has been planting it for over 3.000 years and used the flower to ornament their temples and crow their priestess. Sunflower was introduced in Europe in 1510.
What is usually known as a seed is the sunflower fruit and it is rich on selenium and vitamins D, E and of B complex.
There are two types of seeds depending and different uses:
- the oily one: smaller, with very adhered peel, is economically more important because from them are produced sunflower bran and its by-products after extracting the oil;
- the non-oily one: bigger, black, with stripes, they have a gross peel easily removable; they are roasted and eaten mixed on granola or cakes, used as snacks or birds’ food.
Sunflower seeds are the second source of vegetal eaten oil in the world and this oil is considered extremely digestive. It is used on the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries – very efficient on coetaneous wounds treatment. The milk extracted from sunflower seeds has a high level of calcium and can perfectly replace animal milk on general culinary.
